High Performance Building
The N.C. Solar Center first started as a high performance building project. At the time it was built, the Solar Demonstration House was one of only a few buildings of its type in the United States. The initial research begun here and at other sites across the country has assisted the building industry in pushing well beyond the boundaries of this initial project.
Still, much has not changed. Buildings that are well oriented to their site, well insulated, naturally lit and of durable construction will always be relevant. Solar Center staff can help put all of this and more into the perspective of a realistic design and construction budget.
Staff members implementing the High Performance Building program provide technical assistance, education and support of the building industry as it transforms to build extremely energy, water and resource efficient commercial, institutional, and residential buildings that are healthy for the citizens of North Carolina.
